Can someone tell me how to change the battery on my 89 toyota? Is getting zapped a possibilty?

lol no.

take positive off first (red) the neg (black) put new battery in pos first (red then neg (black)

the only way you will create a spark is if the positive terminal on the battery touches a negitive part on the car.

You wont get zapped it is not possible but you will see a small spark if it happensCan someone tell me how to change the battery on my 89 toyota? Is getting zapped a possibilty?
take the negatve side loose firstCan someone tell me how to change the battery on my 89 toyota? Is getting zapped a possibilty?
WORK IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA AWAY FROM SPARKS OR OPEN FLAMES. DO NOT SMOKE.

Disconnect the negative cable first and then disconnect the positive cable.

Remove the battery hold down. It may be along the top of the battery or on the battery tray clamped to the side of the battery.

Once it is free, carefully lift it up and out of the tray.

BATTERY'S CONTAIN SULFURIC ACID AND IT CAN BURN YOUR SKIN. IT IS VERY CORROSIVE TO ANYTHING IT COMES IN CONTACT WITH.

Look at the battery tray. If there are signs of rust and corrosion, clean it off with plenty of clear water. Allow the tray to dry and spray it with the primer to prevent further deterioration.

Place the new battery in the tray and reinstall the hold down clamp.

If you have a top terminal battery, clean the inside of the cables with a battery brush and wire brush the battery posts. If you have a side terminal battery, clean the terminals with the wire brush.

Check and make sure there is no corrosion on the battery cables. Clean them as required.

Reattach the positive battery cable first and then the negative battery cable. Tighten the tight but on side terminal batteries do not over tighten. You can pull the side post out of the battery if you over tighten them.

Give the terminals a good coating of White Lithium Grease to keep them from getting corroded.

Start the engine and you're done.

This is a quick and easy job that should take 30 to 45 minutes. Can someone tell me how to change the battery on my 89 toyota? Is getting zapped a possibilty?
yes you could get zapped

but i think if you disconnect the + then the - then undo any holding brackets you should be fine then to replace the battery do the same process in reverse hope this helps

but you should be able to buy a book that helps you do that and may more things on your car

Always take negative lead off first and put it back on last. Serious injury can happen if you disconnect the positive first. Unless of course you own an older British vehicle with a positive ground system which you don't. If you really don't know how to do this type of basic maintenance you should consider having a mechanic do it for you as your alternator may have stopped charging the battery, that is of course if the battery didn't just die of old age. The mechanic would have the tools to test for this. Can someone tell me how to change the battery on my 89 toyota? Is getting zapped a possibilty?
Absolutely possibility of being zapped, however it is not a shock you will receive but a burn instead. So be careful not to touch or ground (meaning the + POSITIVE pole of the battery to any thing else metallic on the car) always disconnect the positive pole of the battery first. Can someone tell me how to change the battery on my 89 toyota? Changing the battery in a car is easy.

Buy the replacement battery first before you do anything like taking the terminals off. Read every detail on the old battery.

Ask the guy in the battery shop if the one he is selling you is ok. If you buy in a corner service station, they will sell you compatible. Watch for the size. If your compatible will not fit into the battery holder, you could have a problem, esp the base size.

Now, the old battery is dead but take the terminals one by one with a wrench. MAke sure they do not touch each other.

Next CLEAN those terminals very well. ONE by ONE. clean and remove rust ( 1989 will have rust by now) old junk dust debris, gunk.. If the terminals are corroded, replace them. they are all of 35 cents each, or are they a buck now.

Take the packing cap OFF the new battery, set them on the battery clip/ tray/base of the old one. Make sure the black goes to the black and the red goes to the red.

Connect ONE by ONE. Tighten with the wrench.

Viola, you are done changing the battery.

Clean up, wash the hands and dont forget to recycle the old battery.

Dont toss them for the garbage landfill. The metal is useable, the acid inside is dangerous to leave around.

Please be responsible and recycle. Can someone tell me how to change the battery on my 89 toyota? Is getting zapped a possibilty?

NEGITAVE first not Positive. then Positive secure them away take hold down off and lift battery out. Back srtiaght , knees bent. set it down. Clean battery connectors with a battery brush clean with baking soda rinse. clean box that it sits in look for corrosion clean. rub battery grease on the post with vaseline or diaelectric grease bought at the auto pars store replace positive first then neg, bolt it down bye bye your computer will reset on its own just be careful not to touch both posts at the same time with a wrench not good. wrap a rag around your wrench to make sure or just be careful.
