How do you change the battery of a fire alarm that's on the ceiling of the second floor? ?

There is basically no second floor ground between this area of the house and the ceiling, and we don't have a ladder that reaches from the first floor to the second floor ceiling! What to do? The battery needs replacing and it keeps on beeping? :( Is there a place that rents out ladders or maybe a service that replaces batteries for smoke alarms in hard-to-reach places? How do you change the battery of a fire alarm that%26039;s on the ceiling of the second floor? ?
may have to rent scaffoldingHow do you change the battery of a fire alarm that%26039;s on the ceiling of the second floor? ?
you must have a Home Depot rental store near you somewhere you can rent a 12 ft extension ladder for about $8 and get this done or a 12' step ladder for about $15 and do it yourself. If the alarm is hardwired then you may need to replace it but it sounds like a battery. Don't pay someone to do this ...Its too easy to do yourself! How do you change the battery of a fire alarm that%26039;s on the ceiling of the second floor? ?
They make long poles with attachments that are used to change light bulbs in very high places. Maybe there's an attachment you can use to grip and turn the smoke alarm? Most of them are easy to remove once you have the proper grip. How do you change the battery of a fire alarm that%26039;s on the ceiling of the second floor? ?
You can buy a long pole at the Home Depot or similar store that is ment for changing light bulbs in high places. Use the pole to unscrew the detector (usually 1/2 turn) from its mouting plate. It is a bit tricky, but it can be done. How do you change the battery of a fire alarm that%26039;s on the ceiling of the second floor? ?
I believe Home Depot would rent ladders, if not, check your yellow pages.

...and it would be much easier to move the alarm to a more convenient position.
