How far away from car should my Ford Fiesta remote key fob work?

Ford Fiesta 53 plate.

I used to be able to open doors from a distance but now i have to do it stood by car.

Have changed battery. How far away from car should my Ford Fiesta remote key fob work?
Perhaps surprisingly, they're only designed to work within a metre or so of the car, though they invariably have a much larger range than that. Holding the fob against your head does make a difference, it seems to use your skull as an extra aerial.

Personally, I'd invest in yet another battery, just in case the one you've inserted is dud. Make sure the contact faces are absolutely clean and don't hold the battery so your fingers touch both faces. How far away from car should my Ford Fiesta remote key fob work?

Lights and speedometer go crazy after battery change?

Not sure how much of this might be related.

Several months ago, I noticed that my headlights would occasionally flicker at highway speeds. Since it was just a minor annoyance, I ignored it.

My (original, 9-yr-old, 90K mile!) battery died about a month ago and I replaced it. All was fine (except for the same flickering headlights) until yesterday, when my console battery light started flickering...constantly. I planned to take my car to AutoZone to get the computer checked, but before I could get there, I'm driving 45 mph when the speedometer drops to 0, my low fuel and airbag console lights come on, my headlights and interior lights go almost completely out, and the car starts lurching. (Scary!)

I just barely managed to get it home, where it's now parked. Before I buy a new alternator, does it sound like I just need to replace the alternator, or might it be something else?

(The car is a 1999 Ford Escort SE.)Lights and speedometer go crazy after battery change?
It's the alternator. The diode pack fried. When one of the diodes went, it gave you the flickering lights. When the rest went, your dc electrical system tried to run on ac. Lights and speedometer go crazy after battery change?

Sounds like a problem in your motherboard. Ford is notorious for faulty computer problems.

How can i remove the back seat of a 2001 buick lesabre to change the battery?

The bottom cushion hinges forward on hooked anchor tabs at the lower front of the cushion. Take hold of the bottom cushion at the seam where it meets the bottom of the backrest and lift. The bottom cushion will hinge forward and the hooked tabs at the lower front of the cushion will release from the anchors so that you can lift the cushion out of the car.

    2003 PT Cruiser battery change...?

We're pretty sure it's the battery alone and not the alternator...I know it's labor-intensive (everything including changing spark plugs seems to be).

I have searched and searched and can't find anything that gives detailed instructions on how to replace a battery for my car.

I got jumped off and it died both times, so right now, it's stuck in the parking garage where I work and it would be difficult (if not impossible) to get a tow truck in there if we just had it towed.

PLEASE HELP!!! Detailed instructions copied from a reliable site would be great, OR a link to something.

Obviously those who have responded haven't looked under the hood of a PT Cruiser. The battery isn't visible from atop the engine compartment. 2003 PT Cruiser battery change...?
if you jumped it and it still would not run, it is most likely the alternator. but if you want to change the battery, take it to walmart(or wherever) and ask a salesperson to help you pick the right battery. when you do that, go to your car, open the hood and you should see the battery with two terminals. disconnect the black one (ground)first. then disconnect the positive(red) and change the battery, puting the red wire on first then, the black one.2003 PT Cruiser battery change...?
generally all you have to do is unhook the pos and neg cables, pull battery out... you probably have to loosen the battery holder to get it out...if you can get the car to any auto supply store they will change it out for free...

Hi i have change the battery in my key fob and now it dose not work?

my key fob seens to have have reset it self dose any one know how to fix it. it is a renault clioHi i have change the battery in my key fob and now it dose not work?
If you handled the battery (looks like a 10p coin or a quarter - 25c coin) with your bare fingers, chances are you have discharged the battery and you'll have to buy a new one.

Use a folded tissue to handle the battery as you put it in the fob.

You may also want to take the battery out and press the lock and unlock buttons several times to fully discharge any remaining charge in the keyfob. This can upset the code sending to unlock the car.

Carefully put in the new battery and press the lock and unlock buttons each for 5 to 10 seconds with a gap of ten seconds between each try. This should give the locking system a chance to pick up the code again. You 'll know this is working when the car locks and then unlocks as you press the buttons.

The only time you need to go to your dealer is if the keyfob is faulty and has to be replaced. They take a blank keyfob and using your car details, they program the blank with your code.

Good Luck.Hi i have change the battery in my key fob and now it dose not work?
You may have lost the code in memory for your vehicle. You may need to take it to a dealer that can re-program it for you.Hi i have change the battery in my key fob and now it dose not work?
If it is like Vauxhauls- Try putting the Key in the ignition and turning it so the lights come on. Then press and hold the lock button for a few seconds and release. If you keep the drivers door open usually the knobs go down and come up again. The key should now have re-synchronised. I do not know if it applies to Renault but it is worth a tryHi i have change the battery in my key fob and now it dose not work?
hi have you tried turning thebattery over or around which ever .Hi i have change the battery in my key fob and now it dose not work?
maybe former battery had leakage. check contacts. if greenish , use wd40 or contact sprayHi i have change the battery in my key fob and now it dose not work?
Make sure you have the battery the right way in the fob. Normally the positive side should be uppermost. If it's already with the positive on top try turning it over (but I've never seen one with the negative on top) if it still doesn't work get the battery checked...it may be a dud. My guess is that a renault dealer/ workshop would check such a minor thing quickly and for nothing. Give it a go!Hi i have change the battery in my key fob and now it dose not work?
The key will require reprogramming using your other key and the car ignition (usually) You car manual will tell you how. If not then expect a bill from your local dealer.Hi i have change the battery in my key fob and now it dose not work?
i am almost sure you have to go to main dealer to have it reset.

How do I get the battery changed in my Seiko watch?

I have a Seiko watch that was given to me as a gift a few years ago...now the battery is dead and I can't figure out how to replace it (I don't have the manual). It was purchased online so I can't really bring it to the store I got it from.

It looks like a special tool is needed to unscrew the back of the watch on the edges. I'm just not sure what type of store to bring it to - a watch stand, a jeweler, or what? Any ideas would be helpful. How do I get the battery changed in my Seiko watch?
Go to a reputable jeweler, department store watch section, or any other venue which has experienced people. Better still find a Seiko dealer who will put in a new battery. Trying to do it yourself really isn't worth the effort since you really don't save much money. Usually these sources have fresh batteries. How do I get the battery changed in my Seiko watch?

You may want to get some hands-on help from someone that's done this before. The battery is heavy and the old one will have crud and acid residue on it. But you can try. Wear safety glasses and gloves. I'm not familiar with with your Korean buggy but it would be helpful to wire brush and oil any bolt threads on the hold down bracket. A six point wrench or socket is good to use for terminals. It's a small bolt head for a big bolt on side terminal batteries, although you may have top terminals. Make sure nothing is in the way to maneuver the batteries in and out. Be careful and good luck.

How long does a mobile phone battery last, as in how many months before you need to change the battery?

with each depletion and re charge the battery gradually starts to deplete always try to keep it cool when downloading give it a break after ward to return to normal operating temps keep it out of windshields in hot summer days never give it a partial re charge but let it completely drain then re charge itHow long does a mobile phone battery last, as in how many months before you need to change the battery?
it's not a matter of time. it's got to do with how many times the battery is charged and then drained and charged again. it has to do with operating temperatures and how often it's dormant versus how often it's at peak usage. therefore, how long a battery will last will vary wildly depending on it's use.

How to change the battery in a nike watch? (bowerman series)?

To be specific, my problem is that I need to remove one of the bands of the watch in order to replace the battery I don't know how to do it... so please somebody help me so I can save a few bucks cause the economy is bad...thank you in advance. How to change the battery in a nike watch? (bowerman series)?
    Which model do you have?

The watches I've seen have the strap moulded as part of the body.

If yours has the straps such that they are removable, then look where the strap meets the body and using a rigid thin blade (pref blunt so you don't cut yourself), insert this at right angles to the strap and turn slightly such that the retaining spring-loaded bar (which holds the strap in palce) pops out.

Be careful - as the bar is spring-loaded it can fly off in any direction.

Usually to remove the back off the watch one looks for a slight depression on the watch body and then slip something flat, narrow and rigid under the back plate and flip up.

Another warning - there may be a seal between the back plate and body to make the watch waterproof, be careful when taking the back off so this does not get lost.

Assuming all goes well, when re-assembling the parts the back plate should go in precisely the same position.

Good luckHow to change the battery in a nike watch? (bowerman series)?
Talk about a piece of junk. Why would a company like Nike make a Bowerman watch which requires surgery to replace the band? I have never seen a watch (and I am old) that didn't have a quick way to replace the band.Shame on Nike.

How long will batteries last in an outside transmitter when temps fall to freezing and below?

The batteries are in a transmittler that supplies information to an atomic wall clock inside the house. I live in a cold climate and do not want to have to change batteries in the transmitter during the coldest months of the year. How long will batteries last in an outside transmitter when temps fall to freezing and below?
An exact figure is impossible to say without knowing the device and the amount of current that it uses (probably listed in milliamps - look for a %26quot;um%26quot; or %26quot;uM%26quot;).

Alkaline batteries will lose power in the cold (I'd say around 76%), but then they will recover when warmed back up.

I assume you're using those and not the old carbon-zinc ones. They leak easily (among a multitude of disadvantages), and are only worth buying if the kid's going to leave it on and run them down anyway.

If you have something else that uses the same type and size batteries, put the used batteries in that, and put new ones in your outdoor device.

    Also, I'd recommend Lithium batteries.

They have a shelf/in-use lifetime of 10-15 years.

    Operate fine from -40-+140 degrees.

Have about 6 times the capacity of alkaline batteries.

They are 6 times the price of a good alkaline battery.

It should work. They are interchangeable.

The reason they always say alkaline is so that people don't put carbon-zinc batteries in them.

A keep alive circuit is a 12 volt power source hooked to the ground and a 12 volt circuit using clips, or plugged into the cigar lighter that keeps 12 volts applied so the various computers in the vehicle don't lose their memory, things like radio presets, clocks, etc.How to reset clock when battery changed on a car?

Thank youSo how do you change the battery on a Creative Zen Stone?
I've never had a stone, but I've had a V and a VPlus, and I have a Msoft Zune now. I am fairly sure the battery is not replacable, at least not by you. Once your battery %26quot;wears out%26quot; (won't hold a charge, etc. I am guessing you'll need to send it back to the manufacturer (as I don't believe Creative has actual stores like Apple does) and ask them to change it for you. Honestly though, it may be cheaper just to get a new player at that point. Not to mention the fact that Creative players are known for being finicky, so the battery might outlast the player itself.

    Good luck!

Alkaline Battery storage? Rechargeable Battery storage?

How to store both types of batteries safely? Prevention of fire? How to dispose of both types of batteries? How to deal with changing battery in a watch or in a cell phone?Alkaline Battery storage? Rechargeable Battery storage?
If you wish, you can put your alkaline batteries in the fridge or freezer, but they have around a 7 year shelf life so this really isn't necessary.

Rechargeable batteries should be fully charged, then stored at room temperature. They should be discharged and recharged at least once a year if you are storing them for this long. But if you are storing any battery for over a year you may be buying too many at a time.

Fire shouldn't be an issue if you are storing them in a fashion that prevents them from shorting out. The easy way to do this is to put them back into the original package when storing them. You can also put them into individual plastic bags. One battery to a bag will prevent any shorts.

While local codes may vary, Federal codes permit the disposal of alkaline, Li-ion, and NiMH batteries in your local municipal trash stream.

NiCad batteries need to be recycled as the cadmium in them is a toxic heavy metal. Most places that sell NiCad batteries will also recycle them. This is free and it doesn't matter if you bought the battery there. They are required to recycle any NiCad brought in.

  • What is the life expectancy of a car battery??

we got this car 2004 and its just been peace of crap from two years ago my husband thinks it's the battery I say other wise so how long does a car battery last normally are you suppose to change batteries every four years???What is the life expectancy of a car battery??
There is no predetermined amount of battery life. So many variables come into play that it really depends on the situation at hand.

Your battery is probably bad though unless it is not being properly charged by the alternator or you have bad battery cables.

A starter can kill a battery quickly if it is drawing to many amps.

Typically a battery will last up to 5 years if maintained properly and yes I have seen them last for as long as 12 years but this is a rare item to last that long especially on todays cars and the poor maintenance habits of todays drivers.

Best bet is to remove the battery and have it fully charged then load tested this will tell you what the battery is doing and if it is bad or good. Thanks Bill BWhat is the life expectancy of a car battery??
Depending on where you live batteries will usually last 2-8 years. It will be on the low side if you live somewhere that get really hot or cold and on the high side if you live in an average weather area. Why do you say that the car is a piece of crap. The only thing the battery would do is give you problems starting the car. If you give some more info you may get some better advice.

Starting a car takes more electricity than all of your accessories put together so it may be the battery. Even if you headlights and everything else works the battery may still be bad. Try turning on your headlights and then starting your car. If the lights go almost all the way out while you are holding the key in the start position then it is probably your battery. I'm not sure what kind of options there are in Germany, but stores such as sears or autozone will usually check your battery for free so you may want to call around. I agree with you, next time get a Honda, still my favorite car company even though I don't drive one any more. What is the life expectancy of a car battery??
    lots of places that sell batteries have a %26quot;load test%26quot;

machine, it puts a load on the battery and they

can tell if a battery is bad or not..

also check battery connections and make shure

they are clean and tight.. the battery may not

be getting a good charge. What is the life expectancy of a car battery??
The original battery usually lasts about 10-12 years. Replacement batteries usually last 3-6 years. What is the life expectancy of a car battery??
your problem sounds like you need a new battery, I would go get a free charging system check to be sure from somebody where you live, usually batteries last as long as they are warranted for, if it's a 2 yr. battery you can almost bet that it will die on that day or shortly after the 2 yrs. What is the life expectancy of a car battery??
3-5 years. Maybe more, maybe less... depends on what type of life they had. Excessive cold temperatures, if they were drained down or allowed to sit without a charge would shorten the life. What is the life expectancy of a car battery??
I do purchasing for the city of Chicago's fleet maintenance department. I purchase Interstate batteries (they make the die hards for Sears) and we buy the top of the line, they take quite a beating and they usually have a life expectancy of around three to four years, and that is the best!

I have just returned to my mac-book after about 9 weeks of it not being used, and I can't get my battery to hold a charge. In the battery status thing in the menu bar, it says (Not Charging), and i can only get my computer to stay on if i have the AC Adapter plugged in. When it is plugged in, it is showing a green light. When i try to press that little button on the battery, it doesn't light up whatsoever.

This is the Info about my battery that you may find useful

and i tray to change battery and also not ChargingHow do I fix my battery for my 13%26quot; Macbook?
Might be the charging circuit in your laptop that has broke, can you get a battery from anyone to try in your laptop to see if it will charge? If no batterys will charge then thats your problem.

Even if the battery was knackered then it should still at least show that its charging on your laptop. Not familiar with macs but if you go into your BIOS settings that will also display info about your battery health and if it is actually charging or not.

Audi A4 2003 battery change how?

I formulated this same question a few days ago, but now that ATT and Yahoo joint strengths..or so they say they deleted all my email and my questions. Has anybody done it, or has a real knowledge about changing it, my friend 'a mechanic, told me not to cchangebecause the computer will be reseted and would not start the car again I need to get a cigarette lighter adapter with a (9 or 12 volts ) battery connected while changing it, I received 5 answers very well presented yesterday but no one since to have a real knowledge of this specific car and situation I have connected a 9 volts batt to a cigarette lighter adapter and I am about to change it the car is out with no power and I find ludicrous two it to have the battery changed.Audi A4 2003 battery change how?
haha wow idk what the heck ur friend is talking about your car will start everything will get reset and you may need a radio code if the radio goes into safe mode but you should have that in ur manual but itll be fine just go do it.Audi A4 2003 battery change how?
lol plug it into an outlet...idk...Audi A4 2003 battery change how?
you will be fine. the car will still start.Audi A4 2003 battery change how?
The car will still start but everything will run through a %26quot;start up%26quot; of sorts and as stated above youll need to enter a radio code. I would keep the charger hooked up while you replace it, just makes it easier.

Can we fight a fine that was charged for a dead battery?

I've been living in my apartment for over 3 years and have had little to complain about and haven't had much trouble with my rental company. I would consider us good tenants - we pay our rent on time and have done everything in our power - so we thought to adhere to the lease agreement.

My issue came up last week when I got a letter in the mail from my rental company with a notice that read %26quot;Notice of Infraction to Resident/Tenant(s) and Fees/Charge Statement%26quot; and on that statement it had a %26quot;Material Violation of Lease Agreement%26quot; marked for us and in notes it said %26quot;Both BedRooms - $200 and it didn't say what the violation was. I was furious... I called them and asked them what the violation was and they said they had come in and done an annual smoke detector check and had found that both bedrooms were in violation because the batteries were dead in both of the bedrooms in our apartment.

It was never pointed out to me that it was our responsibility to check and change the batteries - otherwise we would have done it. Granted I should have read the lease more carefully because after I talked to them I looked it up and it did say that it was our responsibility to check and change the batteries.

These are my issues with this:

    1) These fire alarms appear to be %26quot;hardwired%26quot; when you take them off the ceiling and look at them. I would have never known that there was a battery in them - unless shown.

    2) This is what it states in the lease %26quot;Pursuant to the State Law relating to the duties of Landlords and Residents regarding smoke detectors; it is the responsibility of the Landlord to ensure the proper operation of the smoke detector(s) upon the occupancy of each new Resident and to periodically inspect smoke detector(s) and to document said inspections. It is the responsibility of the Resident to test the smoke detector(s) monthly, change batteries when necessary and to maintain the smoke detector(s) by keeping the detector clear of dust, dirt, or any furniture. Resident shall notify the Landlord when the smoke detector(s) isn't working properly. There will be a $100 fee per item assessed against Resident(s) who removes or dismantles smoke detector(s) and/or smoke alarm(s).%26quot; - Does not changing a battery constitute %26quot;Damaging or Dismantling%26quot;? I guess I would not interpret it that way... and if they are interpreting it that way, I can interpret the %26quot;responsibility of the Landlord to ensure the proper operation of the smoke detector(s) upon the occupancy of each new Resident%26quot; to be in breach of contract for not showing us how to %26quot;properly operate%26quot; the smoke detectors enough to know where the battery is and how to change it.

    3) Is it incorrect for us to expect to be warned first (especially if it isn't specifically spelled out in the lease that we get fined for that specific infraction) and given a date to have it fixed by or else a fine?

They did have a note posted on the door that stated that they were going to be inspecting - and it did make note of the $100 fine for what is stated in the lease, but didn't say anything about making sure the batteries were replaced.

Is this something that we can fight? Can we fight a fine that was charged for a dead battery?
It would have been polite to issue a warning on the first infraction, but they aren't required to. The clause about the fine isn't conditioned. On its face, the contract gives no indication that there would be warnings or grace periods. I get what you are saying about whether checking the battery constitutes %26quot;damaging or dismantling%26quot; for purposes of the fine, and agree yours is one reasonable interpretation, particularly considering that the %26quot;damaging and dismantling%26quot; language is in a separate sentence and appears to be set apart from the requirements of checking the battery. If you made a legal issue of it, would the court buy your interpretation? Meh...maybe. Courts don't like to infer terms when they aren't spelled out. Even if you could convince a judge that you didn't know about the fine, you'd still have to admit that you were in breach of your lease, which would probably entitle your landlord to some sort of damages or remedy anyway.

Further, I think you are misinterpreting the clause about the responsibility of the landlord. I think it means it is their responsibility to provide you with working smoke detectors when you move in (hence %26quot;upon the occupancy%26quot;), and provide you with instructions on operation if you need it. Because your lease already tells you it is your responsibility to check the battery, logic dictates that it is your responsibility to ask if you don't know how to do it. Just like anything else in your apartment, once you are in your apartment, you are responsible for maintaining them and notifying the landlord when there are problems.

I wish I could be more help. I don't check my smoke alarms every month either, and I'm sure I have the same clause. Because you have a good history with your landlord, maybe you can plead your case with him/her/them.Can we fight a fine that was charged for a dead battery?
There is no such thing as a punitive %26quot;fine%26quot; in a contract. It is simply impossible for them to sue you for more than the value of the damage you may have caused, which is zero unless they went ahead and replaced the batteries for you, in which case you may owe four or five bucks.

Can we fight a fine that was charged for a dead battery?
You signed a contract saying you would maintain the batteries in the smoke detectors. You failed to do so.

No, you don't have a leg to stand on. Next time you sign something, take the time to read and understand it.Can we fight a fine that was charged for a dead battery?
Unless there is more in the lease that you haven't quoted, they have no grounds to charge you $100 per detector.

The lease you quoye says %26quot;There will be a $100 fee per item assessed against Resident(s) who removes or dismantles smoke detector(s) and/or smoke alarm(s).%26quot; You neither removed or dismantled them, so they have no grounds for the $100 fee.

Also, did they give you the required written notice of coming in to inspect?

RichardCan we fight a fine that was charged for a dead battery?
You seem to be asking if some law precludes you from entering into a contract unless someone else first determines what clause you are most likely to breach and reads that clause to you. If you are an adult in the u.s. there is no such law. Adults are free to enter into contracts without someone else reading it to them. Can we fight a fine that was charged for a dead battery?
. A warning should have been sufficient. I guess they want to run off their good tenants. Just don't pay it and look for a place to move. Break the lease on grounds of financial hardship. The one they put you in.Can we fight a fine that was charged for a dead battery?
Unless there's some other clause in the lease that allows them to fine you for not maintaining the smoke detector batteries, I don't see how they can fine you. There's nothing in there that says anything about a fine for not maintaining them.

Both %26quot;damaging%26quot; and %26quot;dismantling%26quot; are active words. Not maintaining something neither damages nor dismantles it.

Personally, I would never have signed a lease that permitted routine inspections. But that's just me.Can we fight a fine that was charged for a dead battery?
    The lease reads: %26quot;...It is the responsibility of the Resident to test the smoke detector(s) monthly, change batteries when necessary and to maintain the smoke detector(s) by keeping the detector clear of dust, dirt, or any furniture. Resident shall notify the Landlord when the smoke detector(s) isn't working properly...%26quot;

Pretty much the end of the conversation. You sign a contract, you are bound by it.

I don't see a hundred dollar fine available to the landlord, though, since you neither %26quot;removed%26quot; nor %26quot;dismantled%26quot; it.

    - StuartCan we fight a fine that was charged for a dead battery?
It is your responsibility to check the batteries.

    You let the batteries die.

    Now there's a fine.

You don't have a leg to stand on.

    Poor battery performance ?

Hi all, I purchased a LENOVO make lap top one year before now i am not getting enough battery back up to work on it. Could any one pls tell me is there any problem with my lap top or need to change battery ? if so how much for the battery available in Indian market ?Poor battery performance ?
If you use a Li-ion Battery it is not safe to keep charging all the time.

If you always charged above say 25% battery now it would be unable to use that 25% and it is permanately gone.

    You need to repair it.

I costs say from Rs. 2899- 5000Poor battery performance ?
Hello friend i am also using lenovo laptop

if u need battery for long time use lenovo power management software which will keep u r battery longPoor battery performance ?
with a battery pack you have to sacrifice performance to get better battery time, no two ways about it. So you should have adjusted your power setting so when it is on battery, you are not draining the battery.2 - 10 hours you should get from a charge, pending on load. Alway run battery from full to flat, avoid short term charges. To try and increase life in battery cycle full to flat 3 times over several days, noting how long it takes to discharge. If it doesn't improve, time to buy a new one, recommend a heavy duty one. You can use the old as as a back up (spare) or dispose of it correctly, your choice.

Most desktop computers have a small, coin-shaped battery, about the size of a U.S. nickel. The type is usually a CR2032. It will be mounted somewhere on the motherboard, and should be easily accessible. Pry it out gently with a screwdriver, and place the new one in.

    Example replacement battery:

    Hi,

Do you still have the manual that came with your computer system? There should be some information in there explaining how to replace the backup battery for the motherboard.

The battery you are looking for is a coin shape silvery color button battery (Lithium Button Battery), the battery should be located somewhere on the motherboard.

Remove the catch that is holding down the battery in place %26amp; replace it with an identical battery which can be obtained in most DIY stores.

    Hope the above helps

do you think that is the reason it was given to charity??? typical when i worked in a charity shop we had a nice man who came around and did batteries for us, but the pendant being a so called designer one is probably one of those that HAS to be sent back to the manufacturer makes things more difficult, do you have a local market near by? have a look if there is a battery seller there? they seem to be able to open anything!! lol good luck!

Its a plastic tube, and I have all these warnings about ACID and stuff....how do I properly take it out. What do I do with these hoses, how do I disconnest them or whatever I need to do ? It's An AC Delco Professional battery if that matters.....How do I change the battery in my 99 Cadillac STS ?? I lifted up the back seat, but there are %26quot;acid hoses%26quot;..?
Don't let all of the warnings scare you. It's not all that dangerous. The plastic tube connects to the vents on the battery so that any gas produces when charging the battery gets vented to the outside and not inside the car. the battery in your car is a lead-acid battery that has lead plates submersed in a sulfuric acid/water electrolyte. This is how the automotive battery has been made for many, many years. When a battery is being charged, as in when the engine is running and the alternator is supplying current back to the battery, a small amount of hydrogen gas is produced. Since the battery is mounted inside the car, you do not want those gases to build up inside so the plastic tube routes the gas outside. It is possible to get a small amount of the acidic electrolyte to come out of the vents where the plastic hose is attached. There are no other special precautions that need to adhered to when removing the battery other than do not tip the battery on it's side or upside down. Always, always, always disconnect the negative battery cable first!! Since all modern automobiles use a 12v negative ground, if you accidentally touch another piece of metal while removing the negative cable, the other piece of metal is grounded since it is part of the car. If you by chance touch the positive terminal to ground with both cables still connected to the battery, you will short out the positive terminal to ground and cause a lot of damage and sparks. I'm not trying to scare you but I must stress the importance of removing the negative battery cable first and not to touch the positive terminal of the battery to ground while both cables are attached to the battery. Simple remove the battery hold down, disconnect the negative then the positive battery cables, remove the plastic tube, and lift the battery out. Place the new battery in, install the hold down, install the plastic tube to the vents, and connect the positive battery cable, then the negative. How to change the battery in Audi A3 (2001)?

There is a plastic thing on the battery that is difficult to take out even though I 've taken out the the right-end cable and unscrewed the left oneHow to change the battery in Audi A3 (2001)?
That plastic thing is most likely the protective cover for the positive terminal. It has 2 small pins to locate it on the battery as well as double sided tape to keep it there. If this is the item you're describing, it will just pry up with a flat blade screwdriver or even a putty knife. If that's not the item, then re-post a question here.

Can someone tell me how long does a person have to change a battery in a smoke detector before it?

starts wailing? It is just kind of chirping now, so I know it needs changing, but I can't get up there now. I'm wondering if it will wait until tonight? (yah, I know to change them all at one time but, I thought we did at the first of the year. Husband must have missed that one)Can someone tell me how long does a person have to change a battery in a smoke detector before it?
Mine have just kept chirpy, until we've got it sorted. Never managed to cope with more than a day before it annoyed as too much. Can someone tell me how long does a person have to change a battery in a smoke detector before it?
chirping is warning ; they say to change them if you change clocks for daylight savings etc in spring and fallCan someone tell me how long does a person have to change a battery in a smoke detector before it?
I waited a hole days to replace mine..and it still worksCan someone tell me how long does a person have to change a battery in a smoke detector before it?
You could go weeks with this chirping, maybe even months. I think that the manufacturers have begin at a point that it has the ability to nag you for a long time before it goes completely dead. If it only went a day before it went completely dead it would be possible to not even know.

no, you'd have to turn it completely off unless you had a second battery installed.

If you hold down the 1 %26amp; 6 preset buttons on the stereo, it will give you the serial number of the stereo. THEN call a Honda Dealership and give them that number. They shouldn't charge you anything...and if they do, call another one. They can put that number in and have a code for you in a few minutes. Once you get the code, put it in using the preset buttons. If it says %26quot;error%26quot;, unhook the battery for a few minutes and then put in the number.

    Changing battery in watch help?

i have a black fossil fs4159 and i dont know how to remove the back to change the battery and i cannot find anything on the web can anyone help me? thanksChanging battery in watch help?
Usually you have to remove the back plate off the watch; you have to look for a slight depression on the watch body and then slip something flat, narrow and rigid under the back plate and flip up, a jewelers screwdriver is ideal.

A word of warning - there may be a seal between the back plate and body to make the watch waterproof, be careful when taking the back off so this does not get lost.

Assuming all goes well, when re-assembling the parts the back plate should go in precisely the same position.

Why Don't We have "Battery Pack" Electric Cars?

Most of the reasons I hear for why we don't yet have 100% electric cars center around the lack of an acceptable range for those cars.

Well similar reasoning used to be used to explain why electric hand tools like drills weren't that popular. But then they finally thought to develop quick change battery packs for those tools and all of a sudden battery powered tools became popular.

Well the same sort of reasoning should apply to electric cars. All you have to have is a chain of %26quot;battery stations%26quot; to do the charging and equip the electric cars with quick change battery packs to allow really fast (30 second?) battery changes. You drive as long and as fast as you want and you let the battery station take care of the charging. You could have maybe three sizes of battery A, B, and C and depending on how large your vehicle was.Why Don%26039;t We have %26quot;Battery Pack%26quot; Electric Cars?
As an owner of an electric car, I can answer your questions from a unique perspective. It turns out that we DO have 'battery pack' cars, and always have had them - just not in large numbers.

Electric cars are clean (pollution from powerplants is far less than what comes out of a car's tailpipe), mechanically simple (electric motors have only one moving part), and recent battery advances are now giving them decent driving ranges. The new 'Tesla' electric sports car goes 250 miles per charge, and charges in only 3-1/2 hours. The electricity to drive it is only a penny per mile.

    .

The exchangable battery pack idea has been tried - a forklift would be used to switch out the heavy battery packs. Also tried back in 1980 was a unique battery design that enabled just the electrolyte (the battery fluid) to be pumped out and exchanged for charged electrolyte.

    .

The most promising new technology is the 'ultracapacitor'. A capacitor stores electricity in an entirely different way from a battery - it can be charged nearly instantaneously. And ultracapacitors will be able to hold twice the power - double the driving range - of the best batteries available now. (See references.)Why Don%26039;t We have %26quot;Battery Pack%26quot; Electric Cars?
Using just electricity to power up a car require a large heavy battery pack. And to improve efficiency you probably want to use chemisty with high power density such as LiIon or LiIon polymer, which raises safety issue (you need protection circuitry to make sure you don't overcharge or undercharge the cells). And your pack is probably going to be high voltage (up to 200-300V) to provide the best efficiency for your electric motor, so another safety issue there. Charging would take some time but shouldn't be that long, a few hours, but you will have to find a way to charge them if you are to drive continuously for a long time.

To give you some perspective on electric car, I am actually an undergrad student who is developing solar car. The car is 100% electric and is 100% solar powered. We have to use 600+ LiIon cells for our battery pack @ 100Vdc. When we hook up the solar array we can continuously charge the pack while we are driving, but when we are not charging, we can drive the car for about 4 hours.. mainly because our car is so aerodynamic. Why Don%26039;t We have %26quot;Battery Pack%26quot; Electric Cars?
    Why should we?

Electric cars still pollute...they do it at the power plant where the electricity is made.

They also aren't guaranteed to be cheaper per mile. Hybrids actually are at a maximum for fuel efficiency b/c they recover energy from the engine.

The technology will also drive up the price of the vehicle.

So the answer to your question is, we don't have them b/c there is currently no good reason to have them.

This could change, but the main driver would be cheap, clean electricity. Why Don%26039;t We have %26quot;Battery Pack%26quot; Electric Cars?
The battery packs would be too expensive for one and too heavy. I fly small electric model airplanes. A typical Ni-MH 8 cell pack of about 500mAH costs about $20 - $30 and weighs about 5 oz. A battery pack like that for a car would cost several thousand dollars. Hybrids already use this kind of battery and the packs usually cost around $3000, although there is one with a $7500 battery pack. I don't know about the weight of these packs, but I would guess at roughly 1,000 pounds. My little packs for my planes take about 30 min to charge. Batteries for a car are much larger...overnight charge.

You can buy electric cars from several different companies. The largest provider is Zap!Why Don%26039;t We have %26quot;Battery Pack%26quot; Electric Cars?
Because battery pack are normally heavy. Therefore, by just using a pure electric car, the power would be drained quickly because you use more energy. Unlike the hybrid cars, the gas engine is still the main source of energy...electric motor only helps a bit.Why Don%26039;t We have %26quot;Battery Pack%26quot; Electric Cars?
Read the section of the linked PopSci article labeled %26quot;Rev Up Our Hybrid Rides%26quot;. It is about a plug-in style hybrid that can increase gas mileage substantially (I think they will be a good substitute until pure electric vehicles improve). You might find the other article sections interesting too.

To your question at hand, I think you are correct that the prototype electric cars of the 90's had pretty poor operating range before requiring a recharge. Whoever %26quot;killed%26quot; the electric car killed off a weak link in the automobile chain anyway. Nobody really wanted to buy an inconvenient electric car. I'm sure they will get better though, thanks to engineers the world over.

But your idea is an interesting one. If people could own a set of spare batteries, they could keep some charging while they are at work or something. They could also keep a few charged batteries in the trunk as spares in case they run low on electricity.

The problems to be solved are: battery size/weight and creating some sort of quick disconnect mechanism. If the batteries are too heavy or too inconvenient to change, people won't go for the idea and would prefer just to have a permanent set of batteries that can charge overnight when plugged in.

And while I agree that electric vehicles simply shift the energy burden to power stations, the electric power grid is a much more efficient means of distribution than gas distribution. While power lines and equipment have some resistive losses and other miscellaneous losses, the transfer of power is pretty darn clean, efficient and easy to access. Gas, on the other hand, requires semi-trucks or other transportation vehicles to traverse the country/world.

The power plants are still using fossil fuels, but we are shifting the dirty part of millions of vehicles into a much smaller number of power plants that use the energy in very large bulk quantities. It is much easier to enforce emissions standards on a relatively small number of plants than a huge number of automobiles. Furthermore, power plants can make use of renewable energy much more efficiently by the fact that they can buy the energy source in huge bulk quantities. Wind power, solar power, hydro, nuclear etc do not transfer well at all to individual vehicles, but the power from those sources can be converted into electricity on a large scale and distributed to individual electric cars with ease via the power grid. Why Don%26039;t We have %26quot;Battery Pack%26quot; Electric Cars?
Existing electric cars are not very popular because of low maximum speeds and their low range between charging up the batteries. I think your idea has merit particularly if low carbon sources of electricity become prevalent. The initial cost of installing equipment to handle battery packs (they are heavy) would be high and some initial financial incentives would likely be necessary to pump prime the development of the infrastructure.

(I assume you mean some sort of swap arrangement where a depleted battery is swapped for a fully charged one)Why Don%26039;t We have %26quot;Battery Pack%26quot; Electric Cars?
With current technology, 30 seconds will not charge any battery of significance. I'd venture to say even 30 minutes would not be enough for a battery pack capable of operating a car.

There are also quick-charge chargers, but these are incredibly destructive to the batteries themselves. Ask any kid with a remote control car.

Battery technology has made incredible strides, which is why there are now battery-powered devices that were unfathomable a decade or two ago. Technology is still evolving, so in time this certainly could be possible. Why Don%26039;t We have %26quot;Battery Pack%26quot; Electric Cars?
Dude there is A LOT of developmental work that has to go into quick charge packs. I'm in the battery industry trust me. The batteries of old would not hold up to the rapid charge of toady檚 batteries. It not only comes down to being able to charge the pack quickly but they also need to be efficient. Meaning the pack need to give up all the energy you put into the pack. Also it has to be able to do so for many many cycles. There are hundreds of companies working on these applications and it is still going to take years.

    Polar Pacer HRM changing battery?

Has anyone figured out how to change the battery in the chest strap/transponder of a Polar Pacer HRM? It appears to be completely sealed.

Please advise.Polar Pacer HRM changing battery?
It is. you have to send the entire unit to Polar (in New York, I believe). Check the web for their address. They are very good to work with. The older ones used to be user servicable, and you may be able to change out the watch battery if you are careful (they seem to be making them tougher and tougher to do by yourself). Pricing is about $10 to $15, I believe. Good luck.

Can anyone tell me how to unlock car radio changed battery its aski?

its a blaupunkt its an 96 vw polo aloon i need to know can i get codesCan anyone tell me how to unlock car radio changed battery its aski?
There is only two ways to get the code, first check through all the car's manuals that you have for a card with the code number on it. If this is not there then you will need to take the car with your V5 to your local VW garage so they can give you code. They will charge for this around 拢30.00.

Ja.Can anyone tell me how to unlock car radio changed battery its aski?
The only way to unlock it is either with the code printed on the special card of pay about a fiver and take it to a specialist audio place and they will hook it up to a machine and de code it for you. It is NOT just a case of pressing a few buttons on the set.Can anyone tell me how to unlock car radio changed battery its aski?
yes you can pay to have it decoded, but with that year of car get another radio even from a boot fair, though there are cheap new radios about, if your young and you want it as a symbol status try sony but it will cost you!!!Can anyone tell me how to unlock car radio changed battery its aski?
Take the radio out; there should be a white sticker on the back, that's the code. Alternatively you can get the code online using the radio serial number.

Have an I-POD and I need to change the battery, cannot find any way to open the dang thing? Can anyone help me out please?

Thanks in advanceHow do I change a IPOD Battery?
    my advice:

    try everything at www.apple.com/support/ipod/

if nothing works then you can ask for help here:

    go here:

    http://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa

    or

    here:

    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/help/

    for help.

    if that doesn't work, try:

    service it thru apple.

    http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/

they will make everything free if it is under warranty, they ship a box to you, you put your ipod in it, then you ship it, they get it and tell you when they get it and when it was fixed [mine was within a couple of hours], they ship it back to you free of charge.

now if you aren't on your warranty or just don't want to have to deal with all that. go to your local apple store and trade your ipod in. i have done this twice, and i have also shipped mine to apple. How do I change a IPOD Battery?
That's the common faulty issue of the older version of IPOD. You can't really change it yourself. send your ipod to the nearest IPOD dealer for servicing instead. How do I change a IPOD Battery?
    Search Google: ipod battery

It takes special tools, and of course, the right replacement battery. But there are sites that sell kits with everything you need, based on model. How do I change a IPOD Battery?
you will need to visit the planet zog, where you may find an I-Podium battery a few feet below the soil of a solarium scalus plant. Be warned they give you the runs if not used properly! How do I change a IPOD Battery?
The Apple Store will trade your iPod for a %26quot;new%26quot; (refurbished) one, if all that you need is a new battery. That cost is about $60. I'm sure you could DIY but if you haven't a clue of what you're doing it may be better just to fork over the $60.
